CISAC joins NORCODE in Tanzania for intensive copyright and related rights seminar for African societies

Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and the University of Agder, the Norwegian Copyright Development Association (NORCODE) organised a regional training programme on collective management of copyright and related rights from November 20th to 30th in Dar es Salaam. It was held in cooperation with ARIPO and WIPO with the assistance of CISAC, IFRRO, IFPI and the Societies’ Council for the Collective Management of Performers’ Rights (SCAPR). Participants underwent training sessions on subjects such as documentation and distribution, transparency and accountability, digital licencing, business planning and communications. 

The program brought together societies from Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe. 10 CISAC African Committee CMOs joined: GHAMRO, COSOMA, NASCAM, COSON, COSOTA, UPRS, RSAU, CAPASSO, ZAMCOPS, COSOZA and ZIMURA.

CISAC’s Regional Director for Africa Samuel Sangwa presented on challenges affecting collections growth in Africa and on required developmental activities to be carried out at national, regional and continental levels to address these challenges.

The next training seminar for Africa is scheduled in June 2019.
