Nirere Shanel, singer-songwriter and actress

Thank you very much for this workshop. It has been a strong learning experience. I will share what we learnt with other artists and encourage them to join RSAU (Rwandan Society of Authors)"

PACSA and CIAM representatives stressed how important it is for artists to join forces in a collective management organisation to reinforce the role of art and music in the economic and social development of individuals, nations, and even for the whole African continent.

The second workshop provided an opportunity to explore the relationship between record labels, advertising firms, as well as its impact on the revenues of artists.

Africa is an emerging market. still at a very early stage in terms of structuring processes and organization. It will take time to get to a stage when artists can live from their music.

As it is the case in the Western world, the music business operates on a B2B model. And major record labels and telecom companies are likely to remain the main beneficiaries of the musical creativity of young and upcoming artists for many years.

Our government needs to understand that it has a vital role to play in enforcing fair regulations and best practices in order to ensure a level playing field, supporting the music sector and the uprising of young and up-and-coming artists."
