CISAC and SCM develop copyright enforcement capacities in Cabo Verde

201912 SCM training
Judges, lawyers and prosecutors from around Cabo Verde take part in a CISAC and SCM training on copyright and collective management.

The ability for judges, prosecutors and lawyers in Cabo Verde to identify and enforce proper copyright use was reinforced through a joint CISAC and SCM training seminar held in Praia on December 4th to 7th.

The sessions were held with the help of copyright and licensing experts Patricia Akester of Portugal and Gloria Braga of Brazil. The trainings focussed developing knowledge and enforcement of copyright and collective management. SCM staff were also trained on CIS-NET, licensing, negotiations and CISAC’s Governance Declarations.

The workshops culminated with SCM and the Inspectorate General of Economic Affairs (IGAE) signing a partnership on December 6th to enforce the misuse of music in public places.

SCM President Solange Cesarovna said, “The extraordinary partnership that has been developed between our two parties, and CISAC's continued support to SCM in the process of its empowerment, has been fundamental in implementing our copyright defence strategies and missions in Cabo Verde”.

CISAC member SCM has been actively promoting copyright protections for creators in the Lusophone country, including hosting the CISAC Regional African Committee Executive Committee and the CIAM Executive Committee in January 2019.
