CISAC to Address WIPO Delegates this Week

wipooct2015

On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)’s 55th General Assemblies, CISAC is organising two creators’ panel in Geneva, Switzerland on 7 and 9 October.

The first panel will gather experienced movie professionals and will explore the collaborative strategies in the film making process. The second one will provide extensive information on the Visual Artists' Resale Right, to support the forthcoming Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR)’s discussions toward harmonization of this right.

1. Framing Dreams: Creative cooperation in the film-making process

7 October - WIPO Room B – 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

To discuss "Framing Dreams: Creative cooperation in the film-making process", the panel gathers key creative roles – a screenwriter, a director, a producer and a writer whose work was adapted for the screen. Practical case studies will demonstrate how copyright laws foster and facilitate collaboration across the audiovisual sector.

The session, held at the invitation of CISAC, the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAFP) and Writers & Directors Worldwide (W&DW) will be chaired by FIAFP International Affairs Senior Expert Bertrand Mouillier and W&DW President Yves Nilly.

Five speakers will join the panel: Olivia Hetreed, screenwiter and Chair of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, Benjamin Legrand, writer of comic books, screenwriter and novelist (France), Angèle Diabang, film director and producer (Senegal), Bobby Bedi, producer (India), and Andy Paterson, producer and screenwriter (UK).

2. Resale Right: Making it work for visual artists

9 October – WIPO Room B – 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

As part of its on-going campaign to promote the Visual Artists' Resale Right, CISAC is organising a technical session for WIPO delegates: "Resale Right: Making it work for visual artists". World-renowned Senegalese sculptor and CISAC Vice-President Ousmane Sow, will be joined by three experts who will provide WIPO Members States with information on this right, its administration and implementation.

The resale right ensures that visual artists receive a small percentage of the price paid for their work when it is resold by a gallery or an auction house. Thus, artists can benefit from the profits generated by their growing reputation, as art galleries and auction houses do. Today, the Visual Artists' Resale Right is recognized by over 80 states around the world, and voices are calling for a global harmonization. Inside WIPO, discussions will be opened in the forthcoming Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR).

With French Société des auteurs dans les Arts Graphiques et Plastiques (ADAGP) Director General Marie-Anne Ferry-Fall, Spanish Visual Entidad de gestion de Artistas Platicos (VEGAP) Director General Javier Gutierrez Vicén, and CISAC Director General Gadi Oron.
