20161021 WDW Canal Brasil 1

CISAC international creators’ council Writers & Directors Worldwide held their 2016 Congress in Rio de Janeiro on 28-30 September. Brazil’s largest paid television channel Canal Brasil, owned by Grupo Globo, produced a report on the historic congress. The video highlights the importance of cooperation, the Ricardo Larrain Law in Chile and the importance of remuneration for directors and screenwriters, which certain countries in Latin America do not currently recognise.

Film director and DBCA President Sylvio Back:

This is a historical moment for audiovisual in Brazil. We are gathering directors and experts of authors’ rights from all regions of the world”.

Film director and CISAC Vice President Marcelo Piñeyro:

[This meeting] is the acknowledgment of our rights”.

Film director and DAC President Carlos Galletini:

We were thrilled to witness the adoption of the new audiovisual law in Chile”.

Author and screenwriter Doc Comparato:

We do not have any rights in Brazil. By supporting us, CISAC is acknowledging our country and acknowledging the international terms that were signed by Brazil. These rights now have to be effective”.

TV and film director Jayme Monjardim:

Gathering forces, being united and staying together are the secret of things. Remuneration will then follow”.
