Visual Arts Regional Conference in Slovenia shines a spotlight on visual arts in the Western Balkans.

Over 40 participants from artists’ unions and regulatory bodies came together on October 17th for the Visual Arts Regional Conference, organised by CISAC and European Visual Artists (EVA) with the support of the Slovenian Ministry of Culture and the Slovenian Association of Fine Arts Societies (ZDSLU).

The conference follows a March meeting in Zagreb between collective management organisations and state regulatory bodies in the Western Balkans: Albania, Bosna and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. The meeting identified a pressing need to increase rights and protections for repertoires other than music in the region.

Supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Culture, the conference allowed more advanced visual arts societies such as BUS and PICTORIGHT to share their experiences and best practices with their regional collective management colleagues and state government officials.

The conference also saw the creation of the new Slovenian Visual Artists (SVA) society.  The society will be in charge of increasing protections and collections for authors in Slovenia. SVA is currently in the process of obtaining the required government mandates to operate. CISAC and EVA are further committed to assist SVA and ready to support similar initiatives in other countries.
