15 representatives from 12 societies from Africa came up to Paris for training sessions on 1-2 June. The objective of these meetings was to help societies better adhere to the Professional Rules as well as fill out the Income & Expenditures (I&E) tool. I&E allows the accurate reporting of collections and distributions across CISAC member societies

The training sessions began with an overview of rights managed by African societies and their classifications followed prior to discussing the difficulties and constraints in collecting and distributing. Burkina Faso Copyright Office (BBDA) Finance Manager Armel Compaore led training on financial management mechanisms for participants.

The training session then covered introductions to the CISAC website and the Governance Tools, focusing on the Professional Rules and Income & Expenditures declarations. A complete overview on the primary and secondary rights, management costs as well as social and cultural deductions besides providing advice on completing annual reports, audited accounts and the I&E declaration.  Over two days, CISAC Quality Controller Miriam Orozco explained in detail how members can use these tools to adhere to the Professional Rules and complete the required statements and declarations.

For African societies, as well as those from throughout the world, these training seminars continue to offer hands-on guidance in improving transparency between societies and adherence to Professional Rules for CISAC members throughout the world. Africa represents a growing market with over 33% growth in gross collections between 2009 and 2014.
