CISAC celebrates “shining light” of ADAGP leadership for the visual arts society’s 70th anniversary
For 70 years, the first society for visual artists in the world, ADAGP, has “been a shining light for the visual arts’ community”. This exemplary leadership was emphasised by CISAC Director General Gadi Oron in a speech for the collective management organisation’s anniversary in Paris, France.
CISAC and ADAGP have a long, strong cooperation among each other on behalf of visual arts creators. For visual artists’ resale right, ADAGP led in convincing European policy-makers to adopt ‘droit de suite’, a right that existed in France since 1893, throughout the European Union. In cooperation with CISAC, resale right is now being promoted for global adoption at WIPO while progress is being made in national markets such as China, Japan, Canada, and the United States. In the twenty years since became a pan-European right, resale right is the second largest source of income for visual art creators.
Oron said that ADAGP has shown “exemplary leadership” with technology projects to help societies improve their operations. He cited the example of the AIR fingerprinting project. The project started in France by ADAGP before moving to international levels.
CISAC thanks ADAGP CEO, and now CIAGP Rapporteur, Marie-Anne Ferry-Fall and ADAGP President, and former CISAC President, Hervé di Rosa “for the work you have done to improve the livelihoods of visual artists.”
