CISAC and Albautor raise awareness about abuse by broadcaster RTSH in Albania

Albania

Prominent Albanian creators are raising their voices with CISAC member Albautor in a public awareness campaign claiming respect of their rights. This follows decades of copyright violations by numerous users, but notably exasperated by the country’s major broadcaster, the Albanian National TV and Radio (RTSH). These users have continually used creators’ works without paying their due remuneration.

On January 15th, CISAC wrote to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to express the Confederation’s concerns with respect to the current state of collective management of copyright in the country. CISAC underscored that Albautor is the only CMO entrusted for protecting and managing international repertoire, in addition to managing local repertoire, in the country. The society fulfils an important position in ensuring rights protection for local and foreign creators, particularly in light of the international intellectual property commitments Albania has undertaken as a country seeking to join the European Union.

CISAC’s Regional Director Mitko Chatalbashev was interviewed on Top Channel Albania about protecting copyright for creators, which can be viewed here.
