In Memoriam: Jan V. Matejcek

The world of collective management says goodbye to the first CEO of SOCAN, Jan V. Matejcek, who passed away at the age of 90. Matejcek was instrumental in the creation of CISAC’s Canadian member society, SOCAN by merging PROCAN and CAPAC, the two former performing rights organisations, into SOCAN in 1990.

Prior to becoming the CEO of SOCAN, Matejcek started his career with CAPAC. He later became PROCAN’s President in 1984, where he worked to increase cooperation in the world of collective management globally. Matejcek led SOCAN from 1990 to 1992, and was actively involved in protecting the rights of authors, composers and music publishers throughout his entire life. Read his complete obituary here.
