CISAC Director General Gadi Oron visited Tokyo during Music Awards Japan Week to meet with government officials, creators and music industry leaders, promoting international cooperation, creator rights and the global growth of Japanese music.

Supporting Japanese creators internationally

At the JASRAC × CEIPA Creators Seminar, organised by CISAC member society JASRAC (Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers) as part of Music Awards Japan Week, CISAC Director General Gadi Oron addressed more than 100 creators and music publishers at an event exploring the international growth of Japanese music.

Oron pointed to the strength of the CISAC network, which brings together more than 220 collective management organisations across 110 countries. He said this global infrastructure enables creators to benefit from international rights management through their local society, ensuring their rights are protected and that they receive fair remuneration wherever their works are used.

Oron also referred to the Paris Commitment, adopted during CISAC's centenary General Assembly earlier this month, which calls for the protection of human creativity in the age of artificial intelligence.

Addressing creators directly, he said: "Japanese creators are by no means alone. JASRAC in Japan, and the CISAC global community worldwide, stand firmly behind you to ensure that your works are respected and fairly remunerated across the globe."

Dialogue on copyright policy

Oron met with Commissioner Gakuji Ito and officials from Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs during his visit to discuss international copyright cooperation and policy developments affecting creators.
The discussions covered a range of issues, including generative AI, artists' resale right, audiovisual creators' rights and international copyright policy developments affecting creators.

Engaging with Japan's music community

Oron also attended the Billboard Global Power Players Awards and the Music Awards Japan Grand Ceremony, joining music industry leaders during a week dedicated to celebrating Japanese music and its growing international reach.

The visit reaffirmed the importance of international cooperation in ensuring that Japanese creators can reach global audiences while continuing to benefit from strong copyright protection and fair remuneration through the CISAC network.
