The French Guild of Authors, Directors and Producers (L’ARP) issued a call for support on behalf of filmmakers across Europe. In the press release issued yesterday, L’ARP highlighted the contributions that film makes to the cultural heritage of the region and identified key areas that require immediate attention from European lawmakers and distributors.

CISAC welcomes and supports this call to action and, in particular, the collaborative nature of the statement that focuses on finding a sustainable and inclusive solution.

On the topic of television rights, L’ARP stated, “We hope for an independent European digital film platform, and TV broadcasters could very well be at the core of such an initiative” and regarding video-on-demand that “we want to believe it [the internet] can today become the best partner of European cinema”. For cinema, L’ARP’s belief is that “movie theatres remain the best place to meet for films and their audience”, and thus needs to be actively supported is especially personal to us.

The release concluded with two clear requests for the European Commission. Firstly, it requested them to spur on the development of European players who finance and editorialise European cinema, and secondly that the Commission should aim to encompass global Internet giants within creation’s tax system and economy.
