CISAC Interviewed on RFI Español About Ricardo Larrain Law and Authors' Rights
On 25 October, CISAC Legal Advisor Leonardo de Terlizzi was interviewed by Jordi Battalé on RFI Español, the Spanish language extension of Radio France International.
The interview was broadcasted by over 300 partner radio and TV stations in Latin America, the United States and Africa. In the interview, Leonardo de Terlizzi presents CISAC and discusses the new Ricardo Larrain Law that was signed into law on 11 October in detail. This law recognises new legal rights for directors and screenwriters, particularly granting audiovisual creators rights of remuneration to allow them to obtain royalties whenever their works are rebroadcasted.
CISAC, through its regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean, was a leading force in the lobbying of the law. The process began two years ago when CISAC Vice President Marcelo Piñeyro as well as Latin American screenwriters and directors, together with local society ATN, started an effort which was coordinated by CISAC Regional Director Santiago Schuster to introduce the new law in Chile. The project was part of the confederation’s global legal policy campaign for better rights and protection for audiovisual creators.
In the interview, Leonardo de Terlizzi said,
The Ricardo Larrain Law is a major sucess of the Audiovisual Campaign led by CISAC and its members. It allows Chilean directors and screenwriters to be able to collect profits generated by their work".
