CISAC to host audiovisual creators’ panels at Festivals de Cannes 2026
Films and series generate enormous global value, yet the creators behind them often receive little beyond their initial fee. Persistent challenges such as buyout contracts, limited bargaining power and a lack of transparency continue to shape the reality for audiovisual authors worldwide. In Africa, these issues are further intensified by gender inequalities and less developed remuneration frameworks.
In this context, CISAC is hosting two high-level discussions during the Festival de Cannes 2026, bringing together creators and industry leaders from across regions to examine these shared concerns.
Different Markets, Shared Challenges: Fair Remuneration for AV Authors, takes place on 18 May 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Marché du Film (Palais Stage). The session brings together creators from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, reflecting the global dimension of the challenges faced by audiovisual creators and the pressing need for fair remuneration systems in the streaming and AI era. It also explores how collective management organisations contribute to securing fair pay for creators and fostering a more balanced audiovisual value chain.
The discussion features:
- Catalina Hernández Director (DASC, Colombia)
- Abhishek Jain Screenwriter and director (SRAI, India)
- Bolanle Austen-Peters Director and Producer (Nigeria)
- Patrick Raude CEO, SACD (France)
- Daniel Deorador Screenwriter (DAMA, Spain)
The session will be moderated by Gadi Oron, CISAC Director General, and will be live streamed via the Marché du Film platform. Access is limited to accredited Marché du Film participants. A recording will be made available after the event.
Fair Pay, Fair Voices: Women Shaping the Future of African Audiovisual Creation, is being held on 19 May 2026 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pavillon Afronova (Village International). This discussion examines the realities faced by audiovisual creators in Africa in securing fair remuneration, with particular attention to the additional barriers encountered by women AV authors. It also explores how copyright frameworks and collective management systems can support fair pay, advance gender equity, and strengthens cultural diversity in storytelling.
Panellists include:
- Yvonne Chaka Chaka, CISAC Vice-President
- Bolanle Austen-Peters, Director and Producer (Nigeria)
- Eliane Umuhire, Actress and Producer (Rwanda)
Moderated by CISAC Creators Relations Manager Luisa Luna the session includes a keynote address by CISAC Vice-President Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
The 'Fair Pay, Fair Voices' panel will not be live streamed; however, a recording will be made available after the session.
