CISAC holds its Dramatic, Literary and Audiovisual Technical Committee meeting in Warsaw
CISAC’s Dramatic, Literary and Audiovisual Works Technical Committee (CTDLV) opened in Warsaw, Poland, on 14 October, bringing together a record number of participants to address key challenges facing collective management in these repertoires.
Hosted by CISAC’s Polish member society ZAPA, the two-day meeting brings together nearly 90 representatives from more than 40 societies and organisations across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America. The committee is chaired by ZAPA’s Cezary Piekarczyk.
The programme opened with remarks by Mr Maciej Dydo, Director of the Department of Copyright and Film at Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic. This was followed by an overview of the Polish audiovisual sector and a presentation by Ms Joanna Szymańska, President of the Producers’ Guild of Poland. Regional updates also provided insights into developments across Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia and other CISAC regions.
Artificial intelligence is central to this year’s meeting. A cross-repertoire panel examines how CMOs are responding to AI-generated content. Other sessions explore the use of AI in film productions, and its impact on audiovisual translators.
The meeting also focuses on strengthening the systems and standards underpinning international rights management of the dramatic, literary and audiovisual (DLV) repertoires. Participants are reviewing key DLV data exchange tools and formats, including the IPI, IPX, CELF, CDF-AV, CDF-DR, and IDA.
Governance is another key area of discussion, with a review of the CTDLV’s Internal Rules, compliance with the CISAC’s Binding Resolutions, and updates on membership and governance for the DLV repertoires.
Discussions on 15 October will address emerging trends in audiovisual exploitation, including the licensing of online platforms and the rise of micro-series. The committee will also review findings from the CISAC Private Copying Study.
The programme will conclude with a focus on dramatic and literary repertoires, covering the development of a standard identifier for dramatic works, the WIPO Live Arts Study, and licensing issues relating to audiobook lending and rental.
CISAC thanks ZAPA and its team for their generous hospitality and excellent organisation of the meeting.
