CISAC Expresses Support to Australian Scriptwriters

Australia

CISAC expresses support to its member Australian Writers' Guild Authorship Collecting Society (AWGACS) in its fight to represent and protect the rights of Australian and international TV and film scriptwriters.

Late last week, AWGACS, together with the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG), filed a case in the Federal Court of Australia against Screenrights, the Australian government declared collection society, over their alleged failure to fairly represent and protect the rights of Australian and international scriptwriters over the past 25 years.

A copy of AWG's media statement can be accessed here.

CISAC's Legal Committee recently expressed in a resolution the concerns of the international community that some rules of the Screenrights' Express Dispute Process may breach the United Nation's Berne Convention, echoing Australian writers and directors represented by AWG and Australian Directors Guild (ADG).
