On 9 July, the Chamber of Deputies of Chile unanimously voted in favour of and approved the bill that recognizes the inalienable right to remuneration of audiovisual directors and screenwriters. Chile’s Minister of Culture, along with prominent directors and screenwriters from Chilean audiovisual society ATN and ATN Director General Cesar Cuadra, attended the legislative session. The bill has benefited from an expedited process, reaching the Chamber of Deputies in only four months. Following this major legislative step, the bill will now be reviewed by the Senate.

Chairman of the Committee on Culture Deputy Roberto Poblete welcomed the adoption of the bill stating,

In the audiovisual production chain, two people are critical: the director and the screenwriter. However, so far, they do not now have proper copyright protection”.
