Paraguay continues to strengthen collective management in the country with the graduation of approximately 15 graduates of the Diploma on New Technologies and Intellectual Property at Asunción Paraguay on 15 July. CISAC Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Santiago Schuster concluded the programme, renewing the commitment of the confederation to reinforce collective management in a region that previously saw judicial intervention with one society. The diploma is the first post-graduate course organised in Paraguay with the support of CEDEP, DINAPI, the University of Chile, Heidelberg Center for Latin America and CISAC

Expanding into academic in Paraguay will allow the collective management situation be renewed in Paraguay. Academia presents the most effective way to mobilise political and public opinion in Latin America. Interest from students as well as academics represent an irreplaceable area for authors to achieve the social recognition they need for intellectual rights and to strengthen the creative economy value chain.

The 6-month programme for lawyers and entrepreneurs came to a conclusion with top artists and producers in attendance as well as DINAPI National Director Dr Patricia Stanley. In closing remarks, CISAC Regional Director Santiago Schuster drew attention to collective management solutions including one-stop shops in Mexico, South America and Central America along with solutions from national and multinational publishers, all of which have created a model allowing multi-territorial licensing in the region. Behind the growth, CISAC’s international standards have also become a driving force, particularly in licencing efforts with digital services such as iTunes, Google Play, Deezer and Spotify. These standards and solutions have led to increased licencing for digital use in Latin America.
