Rio de Janeiro, 14 January 2016 - União Brasileira de Compositores (UBC), the Brazilian leader in music rights management, today announced that the Board of Directors has named Marcelo Castello Branco the new Chief Executive Officer, effective February 1st, 2016. Castello Branco will succeed UBC’s current CEO, Marisa Gandelman, who was appointed International Relations Officer and will actively participate in the transition to new leadership.

Marisa has been key to build a better road to success and to efficiency, and she is still with us on this journey. Marcelo loves what he does, he is very sensitive to music and to the creators' needs. He knows not only about numbers, but also about art. His experience in the digital world and in foreign markets will enrich our activities"

says Sandra de Sá, UBC's President.

Marcelo Castello Branco’s background makes him uniquely qualified to lead UBC. A 30-year veteran of the music industry, he has helped the Brazilian music industry to grow within the country and abroad, particularly in South America, Spain and Portugal. He has also lead companies and artists to overcome the barriers and make profit in the digital environment and new business models. Marcelo has acted as President at Universal Music Brasil, Southern Cone and Iberian Peninsula, and at EMI Music Brasil, South and Central America. He is also the vice-chairman of the Latin Grammy's Board.

I am truly honoured and looking forward to this new challenge. I am aware of UBC's important role within a new market that requires dialogue, constant learning and renewed attitudes and where the collective management of authors' rights plays a key role. I am optimistic and have many plans to share with UBC's Board and the whole team"

says Castello Branco.

Marcelo’s history of entrepreneurship, commitment and strategic planning will ensure that UBC continues to be a trusted voice in all discussions regarding current and future music frameworks.
