Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (SJM) and Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) signed a music public performance license agreement at Grand Lisboa, Macau today.

The agreement which aims to protect the copyrights of musical works played at SJM’s properties including Casino Grand Lisboa, Casino Lisboa, Casino Oceanus, Casino Ponte 16, and Hotel Grand Lisboa was signed by Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM and Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang, Chairman of MACA.

Moreover, it was announced in today’s signing ceremony that Casino Lisboa will be the first casino in Macau to have committed to play local music at its premises.

Managing Director and CAO of SJM Ms. Angela Leong remarked in her speech,

“As a responsible enterprise, SJM is dedicated to supporting initiatives for the benefit of the Macau economy and community, and in supporting the copyright protection initiative of MACA, we hope that we can set an example to others and demonstrate that Macau is on the same grounds with the world on the protection of intellectual property rights.”

She continued, “Through playing local music in our 24-hour operating casinos, we aim to offer a wider and more effective platform for Macau’s music professionals to showcase their talent and make their works known to more people.

"We hope that more people will come to appreciate local music, leading to a growth of the city's creative industries.”

Chairman of MACA Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang commented,

“We are striving to protect the rights for local and international music, but because there is a breakthrough in the local music industry where SJM is the first gaming and entertainment group committing to using local music in their property.

"SJM is able to provide a round-the-clock platform for music sharing and thanks to this, local music creators will receive more royalty income.

"This is an indication that local popular music is working better and better in the market.”

In addition to participating in the signing ceremony, MACA members and Macau’s songwriter-singers also compiled a video, released today on the occasion, in which they expressed their thanks to SJM and MACA for their support.
