In Memoriam: Frank Stella, A Champion of Visual Artists’ Rights

Frank Stella

The CISAC Community pays tribute to the life of Frank Stella, a giant in the world of abstract art and a relentless advocate for the rights of visual artists.

Stella, who passed away on May 4th, had an enormous influence as an artist and dedicated himself to advancing the rights of his fellow creators worldwide. An obituary is published here in the Guardian newspaper.

Stella served as president of the CISAC visual arts committee CIAGP from 2010 to 2012. During that time he led the advocacy for the adoption of the Resale Right in the United States and championed many CIAGP's lobbying efforts across the Canada-USA region and beyond.

He was a supervisory board member for CISAC’s member society in the US, ARS, and was a regular speaker on artists’ rights at CISAC meetings and conference platforms.
